What got you into the business in the first place?
I was first fascinated by computer technology, and video work stemmed from that. I loved the idea of being able tell and share stories on a mass scale, and the possiblities excited me. I went to a technical high school, and there I went through the media broadcasting program. During that time I decided I wanted it to be my career and haven’t looked back since. Who was a big influence in your career? It’s hard for me to say just one person. Definitely my family, they are very supportive. My friends Adam and Will have been a big influence on me both personally and professionally as well. My high school teachers always pushed me in the right direction, especially my media broadcasting teacher. My girlfriend as well, she’s always there for me. It’s really a culmination of my loved ones, and people in my community that I’m close to.
What was “your finest moment”, the thing you’re most proud of? I kind of have two things. The first is winning third in the nation in the video product development competition at SkillsUSA NSLC 2008 with my friend Will, it was such an exciting time. And winning my first Telly award along with my friend Adam for our production company’s work. I realized how far he and I had come in a short amount of time and was reminded of how proud and supportive our family and friends are of us and our work. What was your most embarrassing moment in this business? On one of the first commercials I did at the TV station I worked at I accidentally spelled the name of the town the client was in incorrectly and it aired. It was an epic fail. Is there a great client story you’d care to share? The best client experience I had was when I produced a promotional video for my high school after I graduated. We ended up winning a Telly award for it, and the superintendent gave us high praise for our work in the local media. It was a great experience for both the client and us. What attracted you to Adstrategies? When I worked in TV I would hear about Adstrategies and the kind of work they were doing. They have a good reputation for results/quality, and their clients love them. That’s important to note, and the kind of company culture that I wanted to be a part of. Do you have a method of coming up with ideas and solutions for clients? I try to get in the mindset of the type of customers the client is trying to reach. Then I can better deicide what type of production would be the best fit. The rest kind of falls in place from that point. What driving career goals do you still have? To expand my production company and continue doing what I love. What talent do you wish you had? I wish I could cook. Man oh man, I wish I could cook. If you had to live on a desert island, what would you miss most? Traveling with my girlfriend. Is there any food that helps you think more creatively? My grandmother’s brownies. Deliciousness defined! What frustrates you the most? My alarm clock. What’s your point of view about politics? I consider myself an independent, but I don’t really like labels. Someone I can really identify with politically is Ron Paul. We both have similar feelings about the current monetary system and personal liberty. Tell us about your pets? I have a yellow lab named Buck, and a horse named Wilbur. They’re both pretty awesome. What was growing up like for you? It was lots of fun. I grew up in a rural community and was outdoors a lot, which I loved. I have always lived close to a large part of my family and that always kept things…..interesting. What’s your favorite TV program? I absolutely love “Mad Men”. It has everything a good show should have. It’s incredibly addicting, I never miss an episode. What do you do for a good time when you’re not working? I like hanging out with friends, going to the movies, and making short films. What are your favorite internet sites? Youtube by a long shot. It’s such a great outlet for people to express themselves. Plus, that’s where you can find keyboard cat. |
